Sketches of Trane – Jon Ballantyne & Tommy Smith

Sketches of Trane pairs New York-based Canadian pianist Jon Ballantyne — a two-time Juno Award winner — with Edinburgh-born Scottish tenor saxophonist Tommy Smith, OBE, founder of the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra. The duo explores the music and legacy of John Coltrane through both repertoire and original compositions. Smith has recorded for Blue Note and ECM, while Ballantyne has performed with the Woody Herman Thundering Herd and leading New York ensembles.
