Gladys Knight, known as the "Empress of Soul," is a seven-time Grammy Award-winning R&B and soul singer born in Atlanta, Georgia, who rose to fame as the lead vocalist of Gladys Knight & the Pips. The group scored chart-topping hits including "Midnight Train to Georgia" and "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," both of which were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. As a solo artist she earned additional Grammy wins, including Best Gospel Choir or Chorus Album for One Voice in 2005.
