Bob James is a two-time Grammy-winning jazz pianist and composer based in Traverse City, MI, known as a founding figure of smooth jazz. His 1970s CTI label recordings fused jazz with classical music and funk, and tracks like "Nautilus" became foundational to hip-hop production. He composed "Angela," the theme for the TV series Taxi, and co-founded the contemporary jazz quartet Fourplay.
